Prof. Dr. Joachim Biskup
Bio
Joachim Biskup received his Diploma degree in mathematics from Technical University of Hannover in 1972, and his Ph.D. in computer science from RWTH Aachen in 1975. He has been Professor of Computer Science since 1981 at the University of Dortmund, University of Hildesheim, and University of Dortmund again.
He has performed research in recursion and complexity theory, information systems with an emphasis on database schema design, query optimization and mediation, and various aspects of security, in particular access control and inference control for enforcing confidentiality.
He has joined the program committees of many international conferences, including ICDT, FoIKS, ESORICS and DBSec.
Joachim Biskup retired from his chair of Information Systems and Security in 2012, and since then he is affiliated with the Databases and Information Systems Group now headed by Prof Dr. Jens Teubner.

Teaching
Joachim Biskup presented courses on a broad range of topics in computer science, ranging from mathematical logic, theorem proving, relational databases and general information systems over introductions to programming, algorithm and data structures, automata and formal languages, computer architecture and operating systems, respectively, to various aspects of IT-security, in particular access control, inference control and cryptography.
His books on "Informationssysteme" (in German), Vieweg 1995, and on "Security in Computing Systems", Springer 2009, have evolved from the corresponding lectures. The material to selected courses is still available:
- Sequentielle Programmierung und Programmierkurs MODULA-2 (in German), 1994
- Machinelles Beweisen (in German), 1995
- Grundbegriffe der theoretischen Informatik (in German), 2002
- Informationssysteme (in German), 2010
- Security in Computing Systems, 2011
The lectures on "Security in Computing Systems", presented in German during the winter term 2010/11, are (nearly) completely recorded as video streams. The recordings comprise 15 lectures of about 90 minutes each (where, unfortunately, the field showing the lecturer is missing in the first record).
