Information for Data Science students

Some of our courses are also aimed at students on the "Data Science" degree programs.

Lecture "Information Systems"

The "Information Systems" course is compulsory for Bachelor students as part of the BD 13 module. The course takes place every summer semester. Further information can be found in the Teaching section and in the respective semester.

Master's students may have received this course as a condition of their admission (so-called "reading course"). There are two ways to fulfill this requirement:

  1. You take one of the two exam dates. The exam will be held in German; there will be a first date (around the end of July, beginning of August) and a second date (around the end of September, beginning of October). You should be able to register for the exam via BOSS.
  2. You will take an oral exam. This can be held in either German or English (and is therefore particularly suitable for students who do not have sufficient knowledge of German). Exam dates are usually offered once a month. To make an appointment, please contact the chair's secretary's office(Alexandra Seewald).

To prepare for the exam, the lecture materials are available in Moodle (if necessary, register yourself for the course of the previous/current semester via LSF). The lecture slides are in English; videos are available in Moodle, but only in German. In the slide set you will also find references (to German and English textbooks).

Lecture "Databases in Practice: Data Warehousing"

This course can be credited to Bachelor students as the second part of module BD 13. The course usually takes place in the summer semester and can also be taken in parallel to the "Information Systems" course if required. Further information can be found in the Teaching section and in the respective semester.

"SQL course"

Students on the statistics courses may be able to have an "SQL course" credited towards their degree. To do this

  • only attend the lecture units of the lecture "Information Systems" in which we discuss SQL and
  • then take an oral exam on this part.

For more information (in particular on the relevant lecture units and to arrange examination dates), please contact Jens Teubner.
