Our paper "Robust Query Processing in Co-Processor-accelerated Databases", co-authored by Sebastian Breß (now at DFKI Berlin), Henning Funke, and Jens Teubner, was accepted for publication/presentation at the ACM SIGMOD Int'l Conference on Management of Data 2016. SIGMOD is a premier venue for world-leading research in database technology. The 2016 edition takes place June 26 to July 1, 2016, in San Francisco, CA, USA.
The paper discusses the implications of using hardware accelerators such as GPUs in real-world settings. Systems will then have to deal with ressource constraints, parallel data access, and varying load situations. In the paper, we present simple heuristics using which the system will maintain robust performance behavior in any such situation.
